This intensive workshop will provide you with the core fundamentals needed to start your own freelance business in the creative field. Whether you are a graphic designer, illustrator, digital designer, painter, or any variation of these, the workshop will provide you with the essential tools you need to start your own freelance business. By attending this workshop, you will have an understanding of business finances, how best to set up your business from a tax and legal standpoint, have the background and resources to effectively market your business, as well as have a file cabinet of useful contracts, agreements and forms needed to get on your way to building a successful freelance business.

The workshop will also cover methods of marketing and includes the vital pieces you will need to get your business running. We will cover how to best market your work, how to get set-up in social media marketing, and how to best promote your work via a promotional website. Getting work is the first step. Building a strong business of repeat clientele will make your business thrive. This workshop will offer strategies to retain and build your client-base so that you thrive as a creative freelancer.

The instructor

Anna Christian

Anna Christian photo

Anna Christian is a New York City–based graphic designer and has had a successful freelance career for nearly 20 years. She has designed numerous award-winning logo, book, magazine, and package designs. Her background in both publishing and traditional design studios gave her the varied background that has proved influential throughout her career. Anna is currently the art director at UNICEF USA and before her freelance career, she was an art director at Fortune magazine and later Fortune Small Business magazine.

Anna ventured back to her multi-disciplined work full-time, launching AnnaDesign in 2002. While she works on various projects, Anna's true love is book publishing. She has been focusing on producing beautiful, high-quality books for top publishing companies such as Abrams, Stewart, Tabori & Chang, and Sterling Publishing. Most recently, Anna has been instrumental in redesigning UNICEF USA’s brand identity system.

Payment

Payment are processed through eventbrite.com using PayPal or a range of Credit Card types. If you or your organization prefers to make a booking through an invoice process (electronic payment transfer or check) please email academy@5w-consulting.com to progress your registration.

Class size

The maximum class size is typically around 25-30 people. This helps to create a supportive learning environment with plenty of one-on-one instruction as well as facilitating energetic dialogue within the group.

Times

The workshops will commence at 9:30 am and finish around 5:00 pm. There will be short breaks in the morning and afternoon sessions and a lunch break of around 50 minutes.

Laptops

If desired, may bring laptop or iPad for notetaking and to review resources, but not required. Power points will be available for charging.

Refreshments

Drinks/refreshments are typically available on arrival. Lunch is not provided but the venue will be located with convenient access to nearby facilities.

Student cancellations

100% refunds are offered for student cancellations UNLESS the event is less than 20 days away in which case a 50% refund will be offered. If you wish to transfer your booking to another delegate, that is fine, but please inform us if this situation arises.

Event cancellations

In the rare event that a training course has to be cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances you will be offered a 100% refund. Refunds will be limited to registration costs: 5W Infographic LLC is not liable for any other costs incurred, such as travel or accommodation costs.
